Liz Konstantinov

Biography
Resume

A lover of art and art history for most of her life, Liz began producing her own works relatively recently (summer, 1999) when her husband came home one day with the gift of an easel and materials for painting. She began working in oils and enjoyed it so much that she decided to formalize her training by pursuing an art degree, educating herself on theory and technique, and practicing what she learned. She enjoys working in pastels, oils, watercolors, and photography. Themes found in her work include the simple beauty found in the everyday world, exotic places which become familiar, architecture in art, the convergence of aesthetics and science, and the expression of the soul and memory in art.

Liz has been influenced by the classical masters of painting, the impressionists, the cubists, the abstract expressionists, and such modern artists as Georgia O'Keeffe, Natalia Gontcharova, Elizabeth Murray, Judy Chicago, Frida Kahlo, Richard Diebenkorn and David Hockney. She resonates to the books of Leonard Shlain, especially Art and Physics, and has acquired a fascination for the study of fractals and the ideas of the chaologists. She also enjoys delving into the world of the mind-body connection and the life of the spirit. The sense of place is also a main idea in her works.

Born and raised in California, and having traveled extensively, Liz now makes her home in Omaha, Nebraska. She is grateful for the love and support of her husband, Andre, her sister, Dec Larréy, her friends, Hideko Kato and Kim White, her mentor and friend, Mary Day, and the critics on whom she can count for the most honesty, her daughters, Juliane, Amelia, Madeleine and Maya.

Artist's Statement

Places

I choose the theme of places to convey my sense of culture. I have lived in many places around the world and always benefitted from the experience of learning new ways of doing, living, and thinking.

Wonderful times were had in places from Guadeloupe to Moscow, California to Budapest, Havana to Paris. My work is a celebration of the diversity and recognition of the commonalities in the world that we all share.

Places inspire my art.
May my art inspire you.
